Leading your troop just got easier.

European Countries | Ideas for Thinking Day*

Troop 410 represented Norway at their celebration.

Each of the European countries has its own government, symbols, national holidays and unique identity for girls to learn about and share through Thinking Day* events. MakingFriends®.com has ideas and products to help make your celebration a success.

For countries, such as Israel, where the culture is influenced by Judaism, girls might like to see our page Jewish Holidays and Crafts to learn a little about Jewish holidays and see some craft ideas to enhance their display.

Fun Fact: 39 of Europe’s 50 countries are members of WAGGGS.

Many countries in Europe have their own language. Your girls could learn to say “hello” and “thank-you” in the language of their chosen country.

In general, meat is prominent and substantial in serving-size. Savory and creamy sauces add flavor, vegetables are included, and starches such as bread, pasta, dumplings and potatoes complete the main meal. Sweet flavors are usually reserved for dessert. For your event snack time, troops could cook, taste or at least find pictures of food from their country.

Many sports originated in Europe including football (soccer) which is now the world’s most popular sport. Golf began in Scotland. Cricket has its origins in Western Europe. The Tour de France  is the world’s most watched live annual sporting event and cycling is immensely popular as a means of transport in many European countries. The Olympics began in Greece. Field hockey, handball and rugby also originated in Europe. If your girls are athletes at heart, their costumes might resemble appropriate sportswear, uniforms and equipment for these sports.
