This 2″ iron-on embroidered patch is part of our patch program®.
Suggestions for how Scouts can earn the USA 250 Years Patch:
Activity Requirements (Complete 4 of 6):
Time Capsule Creation
Each Girl Scout brings one small item that represents life today (e.g., a photo, a letter, a token). Together, Scouts discuss what everyday life might look like 250 years from now and then create a time capsule to be opened at a future troop meeting.
Storytelling from the Past
Invite a local storyteller, historian, or elder to share lesser-known stories from America’s past—focusing on regional history, family heritage, or untold stories of everyday Americans.
DIY Historical Craft
Create a craft based on an early American tradition, such as making corn husk dolls, candle dipping, or building simple colonial toys, to appreciate the hands-on skills of early settlers.
Community Service Project
Organize a service activity that benefits a local historic site, veterans’ organization, or community museum—helping preserve and honor history tangibly.
American Symbols Scavenger Hunt
Design a scavenger hunt visiting local landmarks or symbols (flags, statues, historical plaques) to learn their significance and history outside the classroom.
Create a “Freedom” Art or Writing Project
Draw, paint, or write a poem/short story about what freedom means to you today, celebrating the ongoing journey of the nation’s founding ideals.
Additional Suggestions:
Schedule a group visit to a living history museum or historical reenactment event.
Include a flag etiquette mini-session with a discussion on the flag’s evolution over 250 years.
