Singing for Seniors Patch Program®

Singing can provide seniors with the opportunity to engage socially and will encourage better mental health. So when you sing for Seniors make sure to invite them to sing along. Adding activity such as hand and arm motions or simple steps will also give them a some exercise.

Suggestions for how younger girls can earn the Singing for Seniors patch.

Do at least one of these activities:

1. Visit a Senior Center and sing for them. Include songs from their era. Here are some ideas:
   — When the Saints Go Marching In
   — Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’
   — Sugar, Sugar
   — Rock Around The Clock
   — Hey, Good Lookin’
   — Home on the Range
2. Visit a Veterans Hospital and sing for them. Include patriotic songs. Here are some ideas:
   — God Bless America
   — Yankee Doodle
   — This Land is Your Land
   — America the Beautiful
   — The Star Spangled Banner
3. Visit the homes of local Senior Citizens (or visit an institution) around the holiday and sing holiday songs. Here are some ideas:
   — Joy to the World
   — Jingle Bells
   — Deck the Halls
   — Oh, Christmas Tree
   — Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree
   — We Wish You a Merry Christmas
   — Here Comes Santa Claus
   — The Dreidel Song

Suggestions for how older girls can earn the Singing for Seniors patch.

Do at least one of these activities:

1. Make large print sing-along pages to distribute during a singing event.
2. Team up with your service unit and a senior center and set up monthly singing events.
3. Find out about the the technology at a Senior center or nursing home. Make a recording or of singing event with the Seniors. Provide access for the staff the show it or play it periodically.
