We offer these printables for free because we know your troop works hard to fund the troop activities through cookie sales and other money-earning activities. Those hard-earned funds can be used for many other things; including uniforms, patches, badges, and trips. And we want to give back to the Girl Scout community to thank them for supporting MakingFriends.com through the years.
Minimizing Printing Costs
Consider purchasing a printer with large ink tanks. While an ink tank printer could cost $350, it saves hundreds annually on ink, costing roughly $5 per year in ink compared to $150+ for cheap cartridge-based printers.
Ask your parents to contribute to the cost of the printer and ink if your troop does not have the funds.
Personal Tax Write-Offs
And yes, you can write off certain unreimbursed out-of-pocket expenses incurred as an official Girl Scout volunteer, Schedule A (Form 1040), but you must itemize, not take the standard deduction. This includes your printing costs.
So, use your resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to other leaders.
