MakingFriends Patch Program®

Girl Scout Friendsgiving Patch ProgramThis 2″ iron-on embroidered patch is part of our patch program®.

Friendsgiving is a blend of friend and Thanksgiving. It refers to a large meal eaten with friends either on or near Thanksgiving. Although it is a relatively new way to celebrate, Girl Scout troops have embraced it as a way enjoy the the holiday with their troop or in larger groups like their service unit.

Girl Scout Thanksgiving Paper ChainSuggestions for how younger girls can earn the Friendsgiving Patch:

  1. Take turns with your group and talk about what you are thankful for. You can make it into a craft like paper chain from FreeKidsCrafts.com.
  2. Bring in a simple Thanksgiving dish to share with your group. Some suggestions are:
    — Maple Butter
    — Corn Bread from a Box
    — Pre Cooked Turkey Breast from a Big Box Store
    — Jarred Turkey Gravy
    — Jellied Cranberry Sauce from a Can
    — Canned Sweet Potatoes
    Girl Scout Centerpiece Canned Corn
    — Stovetop Stuffing
    — Apple Cider
  3. Help set up for your Friendsgiving dinner. Bring in fallen leaves, branches, acorns, etc. to make a centerpiece for your table.
  4. Help clean up after your Friendsgiving dinner.

Girl Scout DecoupageSuggestions for how older girls can earn the Friendsgiving Patch:

  1. Take a look at the food list above. Discuss what can made with healthier choices. For example, many prepackaged foods are high in sodium. Can you make your own gravy from turkey dripping or broth? Look up recipes that use fresh foods as the main ingredient.
  2. Decide how the food will be paid for — troop funds or family contributions. Set up a budget and go shopping.
  3. Decide if you will prepare a dish a home to bring together or if you will be cooking as a group.
  4. Make table decorations like these decoupaged jars from FreeKidsCrafts.com.
  5. Share your thankfulness while enjoying your Friendsgiving dinner.
