The Artemis program is NASA’s exciting mission to return humans to the Moon and prepare for future missions to Mars. This patch program is designed to educate Girl Scouts about space exploration, the Artemis mission, and inspire them to dream big and explore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields.

Over 90% of female NASA astronauts were Girl Scouts, highlighting a massive, long-term connection between the organization and space exploration. Notable alumni include Eileen Collins, Kathryn Sullivan, Sally Ride, and Mae Jemison.
Here are some suggestions for earning this patch. Do at least 4 of the requirements or make up your own.

2. Build a simple straw rocket and test it. Record how high and far it goes.
3. Create a model of the Moon’s surface. Use papier-mâché or other craft materials to represent craters and maria (the dark, flat areas).
4. Create an art piece inspired by space! This could be a painting, drawing, or digital artwork representing your vision of space travel or the Moon, inspired by the Artemis program.
5. Write a letter to future explorers who will follow in the footsteps of the Artemis astronauts. Include your thoughts, hopes, and questions about space exploration and the future of humanity in space.
6. Visit a local planetarium or space museum to explore exhibits related to the Moon or invite a guest speaker.
7. At the end of the program, each girl should reflect on what she learned and how she can apply those lessons to her personal life and future aspirations. This could be done through journaling or a group discussion.

Our girls planned to do the suggested activities. the rocket straws looked really fun. Our year was so jam packed we never got to it. They decided since they watched the rocket launch and keep up with the next phases of the Artemis project, they will wear the patch proudly as a reminder of this historical event that they have been following. we are keeping tne straw rockets making supplies in our troop supplies in case we have a little downtime in the future.
