To earn the Brownie Pet Badge, Girl Scouts will dive into the world of animal care through five engaging steps. Girls will learn about the specific needs of different pets, create cozy spaces, explore how to keep animals safe, and practice feeding routines. Whether they are researching real animals, visiting a local shelter, or practicing responsibility with creative alternatives like pet rocks and plush stuffed animals, this badge teaches girls the essentials of being a compassionate and responsible pet caretaker.

Step 2: Keep a Pet Comfy

Not everyone in your group may have a pet at home. Why not add some whimsy? and have them make pet rocks and have each girl name her pet rock and make it a house from recycled material.

Step 3: Help a Pet Stay Healthy and Safe

Not all live animals make good household pets, and keeping everyone safe is a top priority. If your girls don’t have pets at home, plush animals are a fantastic, safe way to teach responsibility! Ask everyone to choose a beloved Stuffy or provide an inexpensive plush animal for each girl. What does their animal need?

Step 4: Make a Pet Feel Loved

Many animals, especially dogs, crave human interaction. It’s very hard for shelter animals who have been abandoned or abused. Take a trip to an animal shelter and spend some time with the animals.

Step 5: Feed a Pet

What is the proper diet for your pet rock? This pet likes pebbles. Make sure to feed your pet rock twice a day. Make a feeding chart so you don’t forget.
