Suggestions for how Daisy* and Brownie* Girls can earn the Honoring All Veterans Patch:

  • Participate in a Veterans Day event. Attend a parade, ceremony or event for Veterans Day. Discuss with your troop why it is important to honor those who served in the military.
  • Make Cards for Veterans. Making cards for a nearby veterans hospital or center is a simple service that can mean a lot.

Suggestions for how Junior* and Cadette* Girls can earn the Honoring All Veterans Patch:

Get others involved. Arrange a trip to visit veterans in a nearby veterans hospital or center.  Invite others to join you such as a younger troop, your service unit or family. Which activities will your girls plan?

  • A patriotic concert. Have the girls prepare song books of patriotic songs. Make sure to give copies in advance to anyone participating with your troop so they can practice prior to the trip.
  • Make crafts. Have the girls prepare crafts to do with veterans. Remind them to keep the crafts simple so that anyone with poor fine motor skills can participate.
  • Play games. Ask the girls to plan an hour or two of board games or BINGO to play with veterans.
  • Have snacks and chat. Arrange for drinks and snacks such as iced tea and cake or hot chocolate and cookies and just sit and talk with veterans. Make sure to ask if there are any special dietary needs.
  • Have the girls think about what they have been doing this year, is there something they think others would enjoy during a visit? Maybe your troop did a fashion show or talent show and can recreate the event to entertain the veterans. The girls can ask the activities coordinator for some some unique ideas.

Send Care Packages. Contact a local veterans home or organization. Ask if they will accept care packages with items such as snacks, socks, lotion, games, playing cards and puzzles. They may have additional suggestions of what is needed at that time. Keep in mind that women who are veterans may need different kinds of products so remember to ask if there is anything special that should be added for women.

Suggestions for how Senior* and Ambassador* Girls can earn the Honoring All Veterans Patch:

Host a Veterans Day event.

Your troop or service unit can host a breakfast with veterans that can be very meaningful to the girls and their family and friends who are veterans. A service unit shared how they ran a Bring a Vet to Breakfast that not only honored veterans but helped the girls learn about veterans in their lives they may not have known about. They also learned that veterans can be young or old, men or women. Active military were also welcomed at this event.

Bring a Vet to Breakfast was suggested by a Girl Scout Ambassador* as a service unit event. Your girls may have different ideas that can make for a meaningful way to honor the veterans in your community.
