Suggestions for earning the Tent Camping Patch:
Have your scouts demonstrate they can do the following on their own.
Select a spot to set up the tent:
- An even surface with soft soil is ideal.
- Avoid areas that have excess tree roots or rocks.
- The location should be high enough so that rainwater will not pool.
Prepare the site:
- Remove any debris, rocks, sticks or sharp objects from the area.
Setting up the tent:
- The most important skill for set up is the ability to follow the directions included with the tent.
- It’s a good idea to try setting up the tent before the camping trip. Even if the tent has been used before, your scouts won’t want any surprises when they reach their destination such as finding out there are missing parts.

Earn a tent camping patch or tack it up a notch troop#1147 troop camping in the Davy Crockett National Forest over spring break. The girls earned the primitive camping badge, Adventure badge, retired Flag Ceremony badge and Survival skills badge. It was an awesome 4 days!
