The CDC recommends wearing a face covering to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Face masks can be purchased or handmade or as simple as wearing a bandanna. Whatever you choose, it’s important the mask fits well and is comfortable to avoid constant adjusting and touching your face.
Take a look at our no-sew mask kit.
Suggestions for how younger girls can earn the Face Mask Making patch:
Make a simple bandanna mask.
Make a face mask out of a bandanna and hair ties. Wear it around the house to see how it feels. Does the mask need to be adjusted to fit better? Figure out how to adjust it. Wear your mask when you are outside.

Make a fabric face mask.
Using your own supplies or our DIY kit, make a face mask for yourself and at least one other person. Wear your mask when you are outside.

Do some research about face masks.
Find out about face mask filters.
Suggestions for Community Face Mask Making:
Find out if there is a need for face masks in your community and make it a group project. Do all your neighbors have masks? Make it fun to wear masks by considering them as a fashion accessory and provide masks in different prints and colors.
