Step 2: Observe outdoor spaces

Have the girls find a spot outdoors, lay a 3′ piece of yarn down in a circle on the ground, and look closely inside their circle to find “nature’s houses.”

Gently lifting a rock or fallen log to check for beetles, pillbugs, or worm tunnels (remind them to carefully flip it back!).
Examining the underside of leaves for tiny insect eggs or cocoons.
Looking for spiderwebs between blades of grass or hidden inside tree bark.
