10 Activities for Daisies to Earn the Violet Petal: Be a Sister to Every Girl Scout

To earn the Violet Petal, Daisy Girl Scouts learn what it means to “Be a Sister to Every Girl Scout.” While the Green Petal focuses on our environment, the Violet Petal is all about building a global community of friendship, support, and inclusivity. This includes all people, not just other Girl Scouts.
Here are 11 engaging activities to help your Daisies understand the power of sisterhood.

Girl Scout Swaps
Swapping promotes friendship, encourages girls to talk to other people. SWAPS are great mementos of
a good time as well as a great way to share something about where we live and what we do.

The “Same but Different” Snack
Provide a variety of apples (red, green, yellow). Discuss how they look different on the outside but are all delicious apples on the inside—just like how Girl Scouts come from different backgrounds but share the same heart.
Try a taste test and see if the girls can taste which color the samples are.

Girl Scout Superheroes
Use a themed coloring or activity sheet where the girls can identify “Superhero” traits of a good sister, such as kindness, listening, and bravery.

“Pass the Smile” Game
Have the girls sit in a circle with serious faces. One girl “smiles” at the person next to her. That person “catches” the smile and passes it on. It’s a simple way to show how our positive energy affects our sisters.

Be a Sister Superhero Download
Complete this six-page comic download and girls have earned their violet “Be a Sister to Every Girl” petal.

Role-Play: “Including a New Friend”
Set up scenarios where a girl is sitting alone or feels left out. Have the Daisies practice the words they would use to invite her into the group. Discuss how a “sister” makes sure no one feels lonely.

The “Compliment Jar”
Decorate a jar for the troop. Give each girl a few slips of paper to draw or write things they admire about their fellow scouts. Read a few at the end of every meeting to foster a culture of appreciation.

Sister Scout Secret Pals
Assign each girl a “Secret Sister” for the meeting. Their job is to quietly do something nice for that person—like holding the door, picking up a dropped crayon, or giving a high-five—without telling them who it’s from until the end.

World Thinking Day
Learn about Girl Scouts, called Girl Guides, from another country. Celebrate how we are the same and how we are different.
Read “Strictly No Elephants”
A story that focuses on inclusion and the feeling of being left out. Follow up by asking the girls how they can use their “Violet Petal Power” to make sure everyone in their school or troop feels like they belong.
