National Hispanic Heritage Month begions on September 15th and continues through October 15th. It celebrates the history, culture and contributions of Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, Central and South America nad the Caribbean.
September 15th is the anniversary of independene for several countries including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.
Mexico celebrates their independence on September 16th, Chile on September 18th and Belize on September 21st.

Teach your scouts how to bake pies at a troop meeting or service unit event. A fun activity for the holidays or any time of year.

Making sit upons is a fun and useful tradition. They are great for camping and other outdoor activities as well as to sit in the floor during meetings for stories, games or to talk.
Sit upons can be made using waterproof tablecloth, newspaper, foam or stuffing and lanyard. Holes are punched through the tablecloth for lacing the lanyard to make a pouch. Â After filling the pouch, the last section is laced up to finish the sit upon.

Recognize your scouts that attended a religious service on Girl Scout Sunday with this fun patch.
Troops and service units can work with local religious organizations to have a breakfast for the scouts and their families after the service.
Another idea is to make arrangements for your Girl Scouts to serve refreshments to the community at the end of a religious service on Girl Scout Sunday.
