Family Picnic and Investiture Ceremony

I’m so excited to share that we’ve had our Girl Scout Investiture Ceremony! This special event is where our new Daisies will officially become a part of the wonderful Girl Scouts family! It’s a fun and meaningful time to celebrate our girls as they start their exciting journey in scouting.
Keeping it Budget Friendly
We’ve included some patch suggestions as keepsakes for fun events. See all our fun patches.
To foster camaraderie among our troop, we organized a Family Picnic. We reached out to a local park, and we were delighted when they generously donated a shelter for our event. The park proved to be the perfect backdrop, offering two shelters with picnic tables, playgrounds for different age groups, and a variety of sports facilities including a basketball court, baseball field, and tennis court. Truly, there was something for everyone!
To keep the picnic budget-friendly, we asked families to bring their own meals, while we organized a fun ice cream sundae party with toppings contributed by everyone. During the picnic, we held our investiture ceremony, and we wanted to make it special for the girls. To symbolize the beauty of our troop, I sourced 28 daisies from local florists (one for each girl and a few extras for the moms who support our girls). We shared a message about how a bouquet is made beautiful by each individual flower. As we handed out daisies, every girl received one, along with a daisy for each supportive mom. For the pinning of the insignia tab, we asked the moms to pin their daughters, creating a sweet moment that not only saved time but also deepened the emotional connection for each family.
Earning Uses Resources Wisely Petal
To wrap up our picnic festivities, we dove into our ice cream sundaes. One family brought along leftover fence wood and transformed it into birdhouse kits for each girl. This activity turned into a wonderful bonding experience as families teamed up to construct the birdhouses using hammers and nails. Once constructed, the girls had fun decorating their birdhouses with colorful popsicle sticks, and each girl received a baggie of bird seed to complete the project. Through this activity, our girls also earned their Clover petal, learning the importance of using resources wisely while having a blast!
This year’s events not only allowed our girls to learn and grow together but also helped instill a sense of community and responsibility toward the environment. We’re so proud of our girls and all that they have accomplished!
Here is a video one of our families shared for making birdhouses from a leftover picket fence board.
For those not lucky enough to have parents prep a craft, you can get inexpensive birdhouse kits for your troop which can also earn you the Spring Green Petal for caring for our feathered friends.
