Daisies Making Memories and a Difference During the Solar Eclipse

Daisy Troop and the solar eclipse

This year’s solar eclipse was such an amazing experience for our troop! It wasn’t just about the awe of the celestial event, but it turned into this incredible opportunity for us to create some truly lasting memories while also promoting environmental responsibility.

Using Resources Wisely

We were lucky enough to get a free craft download a with our Eclipse fun patches from MakingFriends. The girls were absolutely buzzing with excitement as they shared their personal stories about the eclipse while they worked on their project. They talked about everything—from the fun activities they did leading up to the big day, to the special people they spent time with, all the way to the incredible sights they experienced during the eclipse. You could just see their faces light up as they recounted what they saw, what they learned, and all the emotions they felt watching the moon cover the sun—it was literally a spectacle to remember!

One of our co-leaders stumbled across a brilliant initiative called Astronomers Without Borders, which collects used solar glasses and distributes them to people in need for future eclipses. We thought that was such a generous cause, so we really wanted to get our girls involved in something meaningful. We encouraged them to gather up as many used solar eclipse glasses as they could find. The parents pitched in to help us tally the glasses. You won’t believe how excited we were to announce that our troop had collected a whopping 223 glasses! The pride on the girls’ faces was priceless; they were absolutely beaming over their accomplishment. It was such a great reminder of how we can make a difference while having fun together!
