A Year of Junior Activities
Are you ready for a new Girl Scout year?
The Girl Scout year starts October 1st and continues until September 30th. We’ve put together some ideas for Junior troop meetings and activities for each month to help keep your girls engaged with activities that match their level and each month or season.
If you are looking for something to do this September as well, the partial lunar eclipse will take place September 17th and 18th in 2024 and will be visible in most of North America. This could be a great opportunity to earn the Junior Space Science Investigator Badge. The Space Science Investigator Badge Download For Juniors is part of our Real Woman Series which feature real women like Kayanne Coote, future astronaut.

Fun Fact: Although Girl Scouts started with one level of girls ages 10-17, the movement quickly grew and more levels were added. The Junior level was added in 1963 when Girl Scouts went from 3 different levels to 4.
Ideas for October 2024
If your girls are anticipating a Bronze award project, the sooner they complete a JOURNEY* the better. Our downloads make completing them easy for leaders and fun for girls. AMuse and Agent of Change are both very popular.
Halloween and fall activities are a great way to kick off the new Girl Scout year.
The girls may want to use costumes for Halloween that they created while earning the Playing the Past Badge. If they want to explore the 60’s our Playing the Past Download will guide them through hands on activities for 60’s fun.
Of course October is also a great time for a Rededication ceremony (and/or Investiture if there are new girls in the troop).
Ideas for November 2024
Veterans Day is November 11th. We have suggestions for your troop to honor veterans in their family or in your community in our Honoring Our Veterans Service Patch Program®.
Earning the Democracy Badge is especially appropriate during an election year.
Earning the Social Butterfly Badge in early November is a fun way for your girls to plan a Troopsgiving celebration for the end of the month.
Ideas for December 2024
Holiday themed fun and service projects make December troop meetings fun.
Encourage your girls to start the Digital Photographer Badge before the holiday season so they can capture fun family moments and create a digital photo project to share.
Ideas for January 2025
For most troops January is a great month to earn the Snow or Climbing Adventure Badge.
January is National Stay Healthy Month making this a good time to earn the Staying Fit Badge to help girls stay happy and healthy in the new year.
Ideas for February 2025
With Valentine’s Day and International events, February can be a great time to explore the different moods of music and music from other cultures while earning the Musician Badge.
International events are a fun way to learn about Girl Scouting and Girl Guides around the world. Our international supplies including downloads, swap kits and patches make planning easy.

Ideas for March 2025
As spring begins, there are so many fun spring activities and opportunities for community service for St Patrick’s Day, Earth Day (in April) and more.
Earn the Junior Girl Scout Way Badge. One of the Steps is to celebrate the Girl Scout birthday. What better month to celebrate and earn this badge?
March is Red Cross Month. Help your girls be prepared for emergencies by earning the Safety Award. Our Safety Award Badge Download for Juniors features a spotlight on Assistant Emergency Management Director Anna McRay.
Ideas for April 2025
Need a fun activity that requires very little preparation this month? Our Junior Fun and Games Detective Badge Download makes earning the Detective Badge fun for the girls and easy for leaders.

April showers bring May flowers making this a great time to work on the Flowers Badge.

Patriotic activities are a tradition for many Girl Scout troops. Make plans for your girls to march in a Memorial Day parade or to place flags at a national cemetery.
Ideas for June 2025
Flag Day is a great time to learn about the flag. Our patch program will help you teach your Juniors flag etiquette.

August is a great time for a summer trip that includes the family. Waterpark, baseball game, fishing or a beach trip can be great ways to to have some family fun with the troop.

Help your girls learn to become more independent their next Girl Scout and school year by earning the Independence Badge.
World First Aid Day is in September making this a great time for your girls to earn the First Aid Badge.
Having a plan for the year helps everyone know what to expect but being flexible and adapting to include things the girls show an interest in helps make the troop fun and will give your girls a memorable Girl Scout year.
Your Juniors may have interests, and parents may have talents to share, to include in your troop plans for the year.
