Pinwheels for Peace Patch Program®

This 2″ iron-on embroidered patch is part of our patch program®.

The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on 21 September. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace.

Pinwheels for Peace is an art project started in 2005 by art teachers in Florida. It is a way for students to express their feelings about what’s going on in the world and in their lives.  Since then, the program has grown from 500,000 pinwheels planted the first year, to four million pinwheels in 2019! Everyone is welcome to join in.

Everyday is a good day to think about peace. You can celebrate Peace Day any day or every day.

• Over 4 million people have made pinwheels for peace. Is there a location near you that you where people plant pinwheels? Find out how you can join in. You can always plant you pinwheel in your yard if there is nowhere close to you.
• What does peace mean to you? Make at least one pinwheel. Write peaceful sayings on it or draw peaceful pictures on it.
• Plant you pinwheel. Go to the pinwheel map and add your address.

• Is there a location near you where local kids can participate? Find out how you can join in. Some ideas are:
  Set up a craft table
  Play peaceful music during the event
  Choreograph a “Peace Dance” to teach other
• If there is no location near you, find out if you start one at a local school, church or park.
