Girl Scout Nursing Home Visit Fun Patch

Many groups visit nursing homes during the holiday season. Try scheduling visits other times of the year.

Suggestions for how younger girls can earn the Nursing Home Visit Patch:

  • Sing. Prepare song books and practice before your visit.
  • Cookies and milk or snacks and iced tea/ lemonade. Talk to your girls in advance about topics such as talk about school, Girl Scouts, hobbies. Encourage them to ask the residents about their childhood or hobbies.
  • Color together. Girls can color with the residents and chat while they work.

Suggestions for how older girls can earn the Nursing Home Visit Patch:

  • Talent Show. Ask your girls to showcase their talents such as playing an instrument, performing a magic act, doing a skit,  performing a dance, telling jokes or singing.
  • Cookies and milk or snacks and iced tea/ lemonade. Talk to your girls in advance about topics such as talk about school, Girl Scouts, hobbies. Encourage them to ask the residents about their childhood or hobbies.
  • Do a simple craft together. Remember that some seniors have trouble with fine motor skills so crafts shouldn’t require fine detail work.
  • Play games. Board games, card games and BINGO can be fun. Simple and brief games are best. This might not be the time for longer games or games that require too much concentration for some seniors.
  • Invite younger troops to join you during a visit. Younger girls might not have the confidence to visit with seniors they don’t know by themselves so attending with your troop can set them up for a great future of community service for the seniors in your community.
