Suggestions for how younger girls can earn the Inclusive patch:

What is Inclusion?
Our download shows girls four situations in which they can be more inclusive. Challenge your girls to examine their own interactions with the disabled. Do they shy away from people with disabilities? How can they be more inclusive? Ask your girls what they can do to make their troop more inviting to someone with a disability. Is their meeting space wheelchair friendly? If a person with hearing disabilities wanted to join the troop, how would they find an interpreter? Review the activities from a badge or activity the troop recently did. How would they make adjustments for someone who has a learning disability? Including girls of every ability is a great way to be a sister to every Girl Scout*.

Is their meeting space wheelchair friendly? If a person with hearing disabilities wanted to join the troop, how would they find an interpreter? Suggestions for Community Inclusiveness:

Spread inclusiveness. Ask your girls to think about the activities they enjoy and think about whether someone with a disability would face challenges if they wanted to participate. Do local restaurants have braille menus? Does the local beach have a wheelchair that can navigate the sand? Are there kids with disabilities in their school or community who don’t have a lot of friends? Challenge your girls to advocate for inclusiveness. Make businesses aware of accessibility issues in their establishment. Advocate for specialized equipment for people with disabilities in local parks and playgrounds. Ask your girls to keep their eyes open for kids with disabilities that don’t seem to have a lot of friends. Your girls can encourage their friends to invite anyone who seems lonely to join them on their next fun outing regardless of any disability they may have.
