Camping Skills Patch

Important Information for all levels:

Remember the importance of storing food properly.
Do not bring food, candy or gum into the tent.
Remember the buddy system.
Stick with a buddy and check each other for ticks as directed by troop leader.
Remember fire circle safety.
No running near the fire. Pay attention when you are near the fire circle. Respect that the number of girls around the fire circle needs to be limited for safety. Take turns when cooking over the fire.
Remember to stay in designated areas.
Stay on paths and in campsites. Don’t go into wooded areas.

Suggestions for how Daisy* and Brownie* Girls can earn the Camping Skills Patch:

Leave no trace.
Show that you know about the meaning of “leave no trace”. Do not leave garbage laying around. Make sure everything is even better than you found it.
Learn how to set up a dunk bag station.
If your troop uses mess kits and dunk bags, assist with setting up the dunking station (adults should take charge of adding bleach).

Suggestions for how Junior* and Cadette* Girls can earn the Camping Skills Patch:

Setting Up Your Campsite.
Demonstrate an ability to choose and prepare a site to put up a tent. Work together to put the tent up without adult assistance.

Suggestions for how Senior* and Ambassador* Girls can earn the Camping Skills Patch:

Fire Safety.
Demonstrate an ability to safely start and put out a fire without adult assistance.
