The girls shared what they did, who they were with, what they saw, learned, felt, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Our co-leader Melissa came across a place that we could donate all of our solar glasses; it&#8217;s called Astronomers Without Boarders.\u00a0 This company takes our donated solar glasses and gives them to people in Asia and South America for the 2019 solar eclipse.\u00a0 We asked our girls to collect as many used solar eclipse glasses that they could find.\u00a0 During our meeting we discussed our solar eclipse worksheets and then our parents counted up how many solar eclipse glasses that the girls collected. \u00a0We collected 223 glasses!!!!\u00a0 The girls were so proud of themselves.<\/p>\n<h2>Family Picnic and Investiture Ceremony<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5241\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5241\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/makingfriends.com\/product\/picnic-fun-patch\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5241 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/makingfriends.com\/girl-scout-leader\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/picnic-250x250-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Daisy Troop Starts Year With Fun, Service and Investiture\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/makingfriends.com\/girl-scout-leader\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/picnic-250x250-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/makingfriends.com\/girl-scout-leader\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/picnic-250x250.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5241\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Picnic Fun Patch available at MakingFriends\u00ae.com<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Another activity that we did with our troop was a Family Picnic.\u00a0 Melissa and I wanted to give our families a chance to get to know each other so we figured a family picnic was a great way to do that!\u00a0 First, we contacted a local park to see if they\u2019d donate a shelter to us.\u00a0 The park was willing to help us out!\u00a0 This location was great because it had 2 shelters with picnic tables, a playground for smaller children and a playground for bigger kids.\u00a0 It also had a basketball court, baseball field and a tennis court!\u00a0 There was something for everyone at our park!\u00a0 Next we wanted to keep the cost down for the families so we asked them to bring their own food and drinks but we were going to have an ice cream sundae party where the toppings were provided by the families.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5224\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5224\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/makingfriends.com\/product-category\/girl-scout-embroidered-fun-patches\/girl-scout-theme\/celebrations\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5224 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/makingfriends.com\/girl-scout-leader\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/patch-investiture_butterfly-250x2521-250x252-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Daisy Troop Starts Year With Fun, Service and Investiture\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/makingfriends.com\/girl-scout-leader\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/patch-investiture_butterfly-250x2521-250x252-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/makingfriends.com\/girl-scout-leader\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/patch-investiture_butterfly-250x2521-250x252.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5224\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Remember your troop celebrations with a fun patch<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>During our picnic we had our investiture ceremony.\u00a0 Melissa and I wanted to give the girls a visual by having a bouquet of daisies.\u00a0 I was able to get some florists to donate 28 daisies for our ceremony.\u00a0 We have 14 girls in our troop so during the ceremony we talked about how a bouquet of daisies is beautiful but it\u2019s each individual flower that makes up the entire bouquet.\u00a0 At this point, we handed each girl a daisy and then handed a daisy to each mom, as well, for all of their help in our troop too.\u00a0 Finally it was time for the pinning of the insignia tab.\u00a0 We asked for the moms to pin their daughter. This not only saved time but it made the ceremony more special for the families.<\/p>\n<h2>Earning Uses Resources Wisely Petal<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5242\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5242\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5242 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/makingfriends.com\/girl-scout-leader\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Daisy-bird-house-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Daisy Troop Starts Year With Fun, Service and Investiture\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5242\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Recycled fence bird house<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After our ceremony, we enjoyed our ice cream sundaes. For the last portion of our picnic one of our families used their leftover fence wood and turned it into bird house kits for each girl. \u00a0The families really did well putting the bird houses together.\u00a0 It was a great bonding experience for the girls to use hammers and nails with their parents.\u00a0 Once they were done building the house, they used colored popsicle sticks to decorate the roofs and were given a baggie of bird seed!\u00a0 The girls earned their Clover petal for the bird house activity.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class='dropshadowboxes-container dropshadowboxes-center ' style='width:100%;'>\r\n                            <div class='dropshadowboxes-drop-shadow dropshadowboxes-rounded-corners dropshadowboxes-inside-and-outside-shadow dropshadowboxes-lifted-both dropshadowboxes-effect-default' style='width:850px; border: 1px solid #dddddd; height:; background-color:#ffffff;    '>\r\n                            <\/p>\n<p>Hello! My name is Karen Sampson and I am a stay at home mom to a Kindergartner and a 4 year old.
