junior-brownie-swapLeader needs advice -I am thinking of becoming a new leader (I would have a combined group brownies and juniors), how small is too small a group. Thanks in advance.

Facebook leaders shared their suggestions:

Lisa’s input: I recommend 4 of each level so they have some of their group usually there even when others do not show. I also recommend having badge portion of meeting separate levels. We divide at different tables/rooms with a co-leader at each group.

Julie’s troop: I have 8 girls…2 will bridge to juniors this fall & the rest are brownies another year. It seems like a good number even if we are missing a girl or two every now & then!

Sharon: My first troop had 17 first-grade Brownies and when those girls graduated high school in 2009, the troop was 12 twelfth graders — 8 of whom earned Gold. My second troop was 12 kindergarten Daisies and when those girls graduated high school in 2015, the troop was 10 twelfth graders (none of whom earned Gold). I like larger troops because it enables the girls to practice leadership at an early age, and they become self sufficient earlier. It also allows each girl to be exposed to diverse girls and learn to respect differences while learning how to work together.

Celina’s help: I have a troop of 16 on purpose because many of the meetings we are lucky if half of the girls make it. That way I can still have a successful meeting with 8 girls. When I had 6 we always ended up with 2-3 girls. When I had 10, we ended up with 4-6. My ideal is to have even numbers 8 or 10 girls.

Dawn wrote: You have to have at least 5, until you hit CSA level. I started with k-2 and had 18. Slowly over the years we dwindled and now have 10 5th-8. I don’t want less than 10, I think that is too small. 10-15 is a good range for me. They always have someone to hang out with, but it is not too many if all show up.

Katrina: Check with your council. Some have rules about it. Personally I have 6,but only 5 active girls 5-7th grade. I recommend having at least 2 girls of each level or so one girl doesn’t get bored doing stuff by herself.

Cheri’s girls: I have 6 girls, daisies now bridging up over summer. I had 7 but one dropped after a few months. I never wanted more than 8. I like small group, more personal and gives me more time to do great things. Most all come to meetings, some cant come to weekend events but I still plan them and go even if its just my daughter and myself.
