Leader question: What are some things that your troop did that they actually loved and you would highly recommend doing again? And what are some things that your troop did that they did not like? And would you or would you not have done something different?
Our Facebook page leaders shared their ideas:
Tami’s troop: Our goal is to always try something new, so we do not repeat our experience, nor do we do things that most families do. Our troop’s goal (set by the girls) really is to discover, connect and take action, and the girls love it, knowing to make the most of whatever they are doing, because this is their opportunity to try new things, whether they find out they like or dislike them. Which is when they have the most fun – camping, cooking and traveling.
Shanda: Of all the projects I worked on this year with my second year Daisies they were most excited about the storybook I gave them that corresponded to our fairy garden activity. Pinkolicious Fairy House. They rushed me squealing when I told them each were getting their own book. Warmed my heart to see their excitement to read.
Chenoa’s help: Any crafts, journey in a sleepover the girls are begging to do another one, camping as a troop, and the mall lock in. We did our own world thinking day and each girl presented a country, girls said it was a lot of work but they enjoyed making the food or beverages associated with their country.
- Karoline’s response to Chenoa’s comment: I agree about the journey in a sleepover. My girls LOVED that too. We used the Journey Badge In A Bag® from MakingFriends® .com. Everything you need to earn the journey and the girls absolutely love completing it that way!!
Sarah’s girls: We also try not to repeat our experiences. Our troop loved going to a local Gold Rush era town for a old-timey photo and making candy canes during the winter. We have also enjoyed making different ceramics projects, ice skating, we had a beekeeper visit us as well as a local female sheriff deputy. Generally the girls like to build/make things for others (Daisy/Brownie troop).
Sandra: My girls (Cadette) love doing things for others. We host a Daisy Egg hunt every year and we also bake cookies for our local firehouse.
Amanda’s ideas: Oh my gosh. So much. Our Best Activities for Scouts are…Troop-and-family night at the Harlem Globetrotters. Pumpkin and apple picking trips. Scavenger hunt at Target (financial literacy badge work). Tour of the county animal shelter. Making care packages for the military. Putting together spaghetti dinners for our cookie families. Teaching the Junior Music badge to a bridging troop. Especially making their own trumpets!
Less “great fun” but a HUGE positive experience resulting in some thoughtful introspection was a trip to the local teen shelter. On the flip side, we had a miserable experience at a council fundraiser – my girls learned that they like the idea of cheering a lot more than they actually enjoy cheering. 🙂 !Laura: New York city. This year we are going diamond mining. Of course this is older girls. When we were younger we did build a bear, bowling, paint parties, ceramic cups. All these things we loved so much.
